The new P3 animal house is opposite the main IRB building, on a plot of land with two constructions:
• a 1925 Liberty style house, listed by the cantonal cultural commission.
• a disaffected industrial building.
The project frees up the house and sets it off against contiguous buildings.
A patio helps to make this distinction among the constructed elements and brings natural light to the workspaces and laboratories.
The ground floor is taken up by a large animal house with a P3 protection level, made up of 3 distinct sectors as well as being fully equipped to guarantee the non-contamination of the complex and the environment.
The first floor laboratories are linked to the animal house. The cancer research group (IOSI) takes up the second floor.
Administrative departments, a small staff restaurant plus staff, researcher and university guest accommodation are all provided for in the four-storey «Liberty House».
