This building is the fruit of the dp-Studio's reflection on and past experience of economical quality housing, the rational use of passive solar power and of interior harnessing of energies in individual apartments.
Bière, located in the Jura, has a particularly cold climate. The site is constantly exposed to the North wind. This fact played an important role in deciding the planning for the project.
The apartments are double-oriented. The energy producing areas, such as the kitchens and bathrooms, form a north-south axis, to the south of which are glass verandas acting as passive solar energy absorbers. This concept offers great thermal comfort and great flexibility of space use for each apartment.
The living space covers 2,000m². The building counts eight 102m² apartments with 3 ½ rooms and eight 123m² apartments with 4 ½ rooms.
